Three Stadiums Supplied

The 2022 World Cup hosted in Qatar incorporates eight stadiums in total, with BAGNODESIGN supplying Al Rayyan Stadium, Al Janoub and Education City Stadiums. The largest supply is seen within the Education City Stadium. This 40,000 capacity stadium is at the heart of the Qatar Foundation and has been chosen for eight matches of the 2022 World Cup including the quarter-finals stage; as well as becoming home to the Qatar women’s national team.

Education City Stadium

Fenwick Iribarren Architects was the design house who created the concept of a complex geometrical façade, implemented with assistance from UK based stadium design experts Pattern Architects.  The tessellation plays with light in an effort help blend the structure into its surroundings, to work with rather than impose upon the environment. At night, the stadium becomes a glowing beacon thanks to the perforated panels.

This design focused so heavily on sustainable design that it received a world-first in stadium construction by being awarded a five-star sustainability rating from GSAS. Measures such as water-saving and hygienic washrooms were met with the touchless Aquaeco soap dispenser and mixer taps. The sensor operated taps and dispenser help avoid wasted water whilst delivering safe, touch free hand washing for users – a key trending design aspect for refurbishment and development of many projects worldwide.
